The Game of Dice : The Root Cause of the Mahabharata War (eBook)

eBook
N.K. Sondhi

We know that Lord Krishna had played a vital role in the Mahabharata War. The book is about finding out the root cause of the Mahabharata War. Lord Krishna being the main char¬ismatic character, mythological stories related to his life and the stories related to the Kuru dynasty of Pandavas and Kauravas have been discussed. What happened in the war and who was killed by whom are not the subject matter of this book. It is writ¬ten to highlight the circumstances and intentions of those at the helm of affairs. Like the nuclear war of today, it was a devastating war, and many efforts were made to ensure that war does not take place. But it happened, why and who was responsible is a matter of fact to be known by all. The book consists of a collection of legends and tales from different sources that revolve around the great war of two branches of the ancient dynasty of the Kuru clan. The gist of many old scripts reveals there were two cata¬strophic moves behind the great war, one disrobing of Draupadi and the second playing game of Dice. Moreover, because of jeal¬ousy, greed and overconfidence of Duryodhan, many warriors were insulted, cows looted, cities destroyed, and at last, both the branches of the Kuru clan were destroyed, leading to the end of an era. The war devastated the human race and destroyed their knowledge base, culture, and everything of a sustained life. It would be interesting to know that Lord Krishna was the one who took birth as an incarnation of Lord Vishnu to end the evil powers (Adharma) on the earth. Being powerful God managing things as a human being includes the elements of myth, philosophy, and religious teachings elaborated in Bhagavad Geeta.

About the Author

N.K. Sondhi's first book was 'Management of Banking', which draws upon his experiences as a manager in the Punjab National Bank. He then turned to fiction writing, bringing forth the seen and unseen aftermaths of the partition of India in 1947 in his novel 'Cart full of Husk'. He followed it up with a short non-fiction, 'Forgotten City of Delhi (How Delhi became Delhi)'. He wrote his next book, 'A Match Made in Heaven: A 2000-year-old love story', based on the life of an Indian princess, who became first queen of Korea in 48 AD.Working with young people as he pursued social activities after his retirement, he sensed the restlessness among youngsters, who are facing a large number of problems due to stiff neck to neck competition in every field of life. Growing use of advanced technology has further alienated them from the main stream of the society.
